Bortoleto Crashes at Monaco Chicane, Brings Out First Qualifying Red Flag

Brazilian driver Gabriel Bortoleto brought out the first red flag interruption during qualifying for this weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix after crashing his Audi at the Nouvelle Chicane. The incident occurred when Bortoleto made contact with the inside barrier while navigating the challenging corner complex, causing immediate damage to his car’s front suspension components.

The red flag was displayed with just over two minutes remaining in the opening qualifying session, forcing all drivers to return to the pits while marshals worked to clear Bortoleto’s stricken machine from the track. At the time of his crash, the Brazilian was running in 15th position on the timing sheets as drivers fought for advancement to the next qualifying phase.

Despite the suspension damage from the barrier contact, Bortoleto managed to avoid hitting the outer wall of the chicane, which could have resulted in more extensive damage to his Audi and potentially longer delays for track cleanup. The relatively contained nature of the incident allowed marshals to focus their recovery efforts on removing the car without major barrier repairs.

When the red flags were waved, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc held the top position on the qualifying timesheets. The stoppage came at a crucial moment in the session as drivers were making their final qualifying attempts around the demanding Monaco street circuit, where track position and clean laps are essential for competitive grid positions.
