Verstappen Eyes 2027 Daytona 24 Hours Entry as GT Racing Interest Grows

Max Verstappen has disclosed his interest in competing at the 2027 24 Hours of Daytona, marking another potential step in his expanding motorsport horizons beyond Formula 1. The four-time world champion’s revelation comes on the heels of his impressive performance at the Nurburgring 24-hour race, where he nearly claimed victory in his latest GT racing venture.

Speaking to Dutch publication De Telegraaf, Verstappen indicated that while he won’t return to the Nurburgring’s Nordschleife in 2026, the iconic American endurance race has captured his attention. The Red Bull driver emphasized that any Daytona participation would require significant adjustments to his preparation schedule, stating: “If I wanted to do that, I will have to adjust my entire training programme to it, though.”

The timing implications would be substantial for Verstappen, who typically begins his Formula 1 season preparations in January. “Normally I start preparing for the new season in January. I would then have to adjust that. And I will also have to discuss it with my family,” he explained. The Dutchman stressed that Daytona remains an aspiration rather than a confirmed commitment at this stage.

Verstappen expressed a preference for competing in the GT3 category rather than the fastest GTP class, telling reporters: “It is an idea at the moment, but not concrete yet. I still have plenty of time to think about it. But I would love to do it. And then again in a GT3 car, I think, not in the fastest GTP class.” His growing passion for sportscar racing continues to fuel speculation about his long-term Formula 1 future, with the champion exploring potential opportunities in GT racing as early as 2026.
