Charles Leclerc voiced his disappointment following a challenging qualifying session for the Monaco Grand Prix, where the Ferrari driver secured fourth position on the grid despite ongoing technical difficulties. The Monégasque driver revealed he has been grappling with persistent brake problems that first emerged during the previous race weekend in Canada, creating uncertainty about his braking points throughout the Monaco circuit.
Speaking after Saturday’s qualifying session, Leclerc described the past fortnight as particularly demanding. “I’m very disappointed. It’s been an incredibly tough weekend,” he stated. “It has been an incredibly tough last two weekends with quite a lot of issues on my side. I’m pretty confident we’ll have a solution for next race.” The Ferrari star explained that the brake issues made it extremely difficult to find consistent braking markers even after completing three practice sessions.
Leclerc’s qualifying session was marked by several setbacks, including an abandoned first attempt in Q3 due to an error at Massenet corner. While he managed to set the fastest time on his subsequent run’s opening lap, his final flying lap ended prematurely when he made contact with the barrier at Tabac. The driver acknowledged that this ultimate mistake resulted from “a combination of things” rather than solely the brake problems.
The weekend’s difficulties extended beyond the technical issues, with Leclerc describing operational challenges within the Ferrari garage during the crucial Q3 session. “Just as a team, and on my side of the garage, it’s been a very messy weekend,” he explained, noting that he had to leave the pit box earlier than planned due to organizational problems. Despite these setbacks, Ferrari remains optimistic about implementing a solution ahead of next weekend’s race at the Circuit de Catalunya in Spain.
