Stella Dismisses Ferrari Links as McLaren Chief Commits Long-Term Future to Woking Team

McLaren team principal Andrea Stella has firmly rejected speculation linking him with a potential move to Ferrari, declaring his unwavering commitment to the Woking-based outfit amid what he describes as the sport’s “silly season” of transfer rumors. The Italian executive, who has overseen McLaren’s remarkable resurgence since taking the helm in 2023, insisted he has no intention of pursuing opportunities elsewhere despite persistent reports suggesting Ferrari’s interest in his services.

Speaking to media including RacingNews365, Stella also dismissed speculation surrounding Oscar Piastri’s future, responding to rumors linking the Australian driver with a potential Red Bull move should Max Verstappen depart the Milton Keynes team. “When we think about Oscar, we couldn’t be happier,” Stella explained. “I think we are seeing the best Oscar in the cockpit and also a happy Oscar, and the best version of himself outside the cockpit. Great dynamics and relationship with Lando, and I think the team is in its strongest shape since I’ve been team principal.”

Under Stella’s leadership, McLaren has achieved unprecedented success, capturing two constructors’ championships and securing Lando Norris’s first drivers’ title in 2025. The team principal emphasized that this success has created a clear vision for continued excellence at McLaren. “So definitely it’s very clear, the direction for maximum stability at McLaren,” he stated, highlighting the organization’s current strength and cohesion.

Stella’s commitment to McLaren extends beyond mere words, with the Italian outlining ambitious plans for the team’s future trophy collection. “One of the things that makes me more proud of my experience as a team principal is that we managed to fill the cabinet at MTC with trophies, and this meant that we needed to create another area of the cabinet, a new one,” he revealed. “And for me the mission is very clear: we need to fill that new area of the cabinet for the years to come at McLaren.”
