Antonelli Sets Fastest Lap of Canada Sprint With 1:14.380

Mercedes rookie was the quickest man on track on lap 11 but only crossed the line in third. Hamilton stunned with the third-fastest time of the race, ahead of Sprint winner George Russell.

Kimi Antonelli owned the fastest lap of the Canadian Grand Prix Sprint this Saturday in Montreal. Despite crossing the finish line in third place in the short-race classification, the young Italian Mercedes driver clocked the best lap of the session: 1:14.380, set on the 11th tour at an average speed of 211.073 km/h around the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

Right behind came Lando Norris, who finished the Sprint in second and also produced his fastest tour on lap 11 — but ended 0.216 seconds off Antonelli on individual pace. McLaren once again showed it can match Mercedes on raw lap time, but couldn’t convert that into a genuine fight at the front of the Silver Arrows.

Hamilton set the third-fastest lap of the race after finishing only sixth — a sign Ferrari had the pace but failed to turn it into a result.

The big surprise of the fastest-lap chart came from Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time champion, who made a poor getaway and crossed the line in sixth, registered 1:14.695 on lap 12 — the third-fastest time overall. It was a clear indication that Ferrari’s race pace wasn’t the problem on Saturday: it was execution at the start and in wheel-to-wheel battles. Right behind him came Sprint winner George Russell, with only the fourth-fastest lap, and one set as late as lap 16. The takeaway: the Brit won on consistency, not on outright pace.

Charles Leclerc rounded out the top five on fastest laps with the other Ferrari, 0.361s behind Antonelli. Oscar Piastri took sixth in the McLaren.

On the other side of the story, Red Bull underwhelmed on raw pace. Isack Hadjar was the team’s best performer with a 1:14.941 — seventh overall, ahead of Max Verstappen himself, who could only manage the eighth-best time (0.594s off the leader). For the reigning four-time World Champion, that’s a warning sign heading into Sunday’s main race. Franco Colapinto and Arvid Lindblad closed out the top ten of fastest laps.
