Cadillac Unveils Major Upgrade Package for Canadian GP as Team Battles to Avoid Last Place

The Cadillac Formula 1 team will debut significant aerodynamic and mechanical upgrades at this weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix as it intensifies efforts to establish itself ahead of rival Aston Martin in the constructor standings. Following the introduction of their inaugural upgrade package at the Miami Grand Prix, the American manufacturer is bringing additional performance enhancements to Montreal for the season’s fifth round.

The latest development package for Cadillac’s MAC-26 challenger includes modifications to the front wing, floor, diffuser and rear suspension components. Additional updates feature redesigned front brake drums, diffuser trim pieces, winglets, and front torsion bars, representing a comprehensive approach to extracting more speed from their 2026-spec machine.

Driver Sergio Perez emphasized the urgency behind Cadillac’s development push following their encouraging Miami performance. “We are in a massive hurry to find performance because we know Aston [Martin] is going to be improving and we don’t want to be left behind,” Perez explained. The Mexican driver praised the team’s ability to deliver meaningful upgrades that translated into lap time improvements, describing Miami as “a very enjoyable weekend” where they demonstrated improved pace from the opening practice session.

Cadillac currently holds 10th position in the championship standings, marginally ahead of Aston Martin thanks to Valtteri Bottas’s 13th-place finish at the Chinese Grand Prix. Team principal Graeme Lowdon highlighted the operational improvements alongside their technical progress, noting that both cars completed both the Sprint and Grand Prix in Miami while executing pit stops ranked among the weekend’s 10 fastest.

The Canadian Grand Prix presents a different challenge from Miami’s street circuit characteristics, with Lowdon stressing the importance of maintaining their positive trajectory. “The goal in Montreal, which is a very different circuit from Miami, is to build on that momentum and keep making such progress,” he stated, as Cadillac seeks to consolidate their position and avoid becoming Formula 1’s basement team in their debut season.
