Alpine’s 2025 Formula 1 campaign has been marred by costly incidents, with Pierre Gasly’s spectacular crash at the Miami Grand Prix pushing the team’s damage bill beyond $1.3 million. The French driver found himself airborne after contact with Liam Lawson’s Racing Bulls car at turn 17, ultimately flipping onto a tire barrier in what became one of the weekend’s most dramatic moments.
The incident occurred during a fierce battle between Gasly and Lawson, when the Racing Bulls driver experienced a technical failure that led to the collision. Lawson explained to Viaplay that he “lost his gearbox” while braking due to a mechanical glitch, causing his tire to lock up before careering into Gasly’s Alpine. The contact sent Gasly’s car tumbling out of the race in spectacular fashion.
According to damage cost calculations by Dense-Strategy-867, Gasly now leads the expensive rankings among F1 drivers this season. His Miami crash alone is estimated to cost nearly $960,000 in repairs, bringing his cumulative damage total to $1.11 million. When combined with teammate Franco Colapinto’s $260,000 in damages, Alpine’s total bill exceeds $1.37 million, putting significant pressure on the team’s budget cap allocation.
The costly incident was particularly frustrating for Gasly, as it came on the same weekend that Colapinto demonstrated the Alpine’s competitive potential by securing an impressive eighth-place finish. The damage rankings currently show Isack Hadjar in second place with $1.012 million, followed by Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli at $907,000, highlighting the expensive nature of modern Formula 1 racing incidents.
