Martin Brundle Casts Doubt on Christian Horner’s Aston Martin Future Despite Ongoing Speculation

Sky Sports F1 commentator Martin Brundle has delivered a skeptical assessment of Christian Horner’s prospects of joining Aston Martin, suggesting the former Red Bull team principal is unlikely to accept a role without equity ownership. Despite persistent rumors linking Horner to the Silverstone-based team following his departure from Red Bull last year, Brundle believes the ex-team boss will hold out for a more favorable arrangement.

Speaking on the Sky Sports F1 Show, Brundle addressed speculation about Horner’s potential move to Aston Martin by stating: “I doubt it, because he wants a slice of a team that he goes to.” When pressed about whether team owner Lawrence Stroll might be willing to offer Horner an ownership stake, Brundle suggested it remains a possibility but indicated Horner would likely “wait and get the right situation.”

The connection between Horner and Aston Martin has been complicated by the presence of Adrian Newey, who joined the team after his own Red Bull departure. Reports suggest the renowned aerodynamics expert may be reluctant to work alongside his former colleague again, potentially creating an obstacle to any potential deal. Team owner Stroll has previously dismissed speculation about hiring Horner, firmly stating such a move was “not happening.”

Aston Martin’s disappointing performance at the start of the 2026 season has reignited speculation about potential leadership changes, though Alpine appears to be emerging as a more likely destination for Horner’s Formula 1 return. The French team’s ownership structure, particularly Otro Capital’s 24 percent stake, could provide the equity opportunity Horner reportedly seeks, although Mercedes has also been mentioned as a potential suitor for that shareholding.
