Alpine’s Franco Colapinto will make Formula 1 history in April when he becomes the first Argentine driver to pilot a grand prix car through the streets of Buenos Aires. The 21-year-old will take to the wheel of Alpine’s 2012 E20 machine, originally raced under the Lotus banner but specially decorated in current Alpine livery for the occasion.
The spectacular demonstration run is scheduled for April 26 in the Palermo district, where organizers will convert Avenida del Libertador and Avenida Sarmiento into a temporary 2-kilometer street circuit. The event, officially titled “Mercado Libre presents: Franco Colapinto Road Show Buenos Aires 2026,” will feature two official demonstration runs alongside fan experiences, music performances, and interactive activities.
“Driving at home in a Formula 1 car will be one of the most special moments of my life,” Colapinto expressed following the announcement. “It’s my way of giving back, even just a little, for all the support and love I’ve received since I was very young, which pushes me every day to keep dreaming of achieving all my career ambitions.”
The timing aligns perfectly with F1’s calendar break in April, positioned between race weekends before the season resumes with the Miami Grand Prix on May 1-3. The Buenos Aires city government has thrown its institutional support behind the festival, recognizing the significance of bringing Formula 1 to Argentine streets for the first time in the sport’s modern era.
Colapinto emphasized the emotional connection to his homeland, acknowledging the unwavering support from Argentine fans throughout his racing journey. “Every message, every flag, and every cheer has always been there. This is for all of you, to enjoy this special moment together,” he added, highlighting the personal importance of showcasing F1 machinery in front of his home crowd.
