F1 Fans Overwhelmingly Support Verstappen’s Harsh Criticism of 2026 Regulations

Formula 1 fans have delivered a resounding endorsement of Max Verstappen’s outspoken criticism of the sport’s upcoming technical regulations, with more than three-quarters backing the four-time world champion’s controversial stance. A RacingNews365 poll revealed that 78.26% of respondents believe the Red Bull driver is justified in his fierce opposition to the new energy-management focused rules set to debut in 2026.

Verstappen has emerged as the most vocal critic of the regulatory changes, describing them as “anti-racing” and comparing them to “Formula E on steroids” during pre-season testing. His criticism intensified following the Australian Grand Prix, where he finished sixth, and reached a peak after the Chinese Grand Prix when he suggested that fans who enjoyed the thrilling race didn’t truly “understand racing” – comments made after his Red Bull suffered an ERS coolant leak that forced his retirement.

While other drivers including reigning world champion Lando Norris and Williams’ Carlos Sainz have also voiced concerns about the new regulations, none have matched Verstappen’s intensity or frequency of criticism. The Dutchman’s willingness to publicly challenge the sport’s direction has sparked debate about whether such comments could be damaging to Formula 1’s reputation.

The poll results suggest fans largely agree with Verstappen’s approach, viewing his comments as honest opinions rather than harmful criticism. Only 21.74% of respondents felt the Red Bull driver should cease his public complaints and instead focus on improving his car’s performance and reliability issues that have plagued the team this season.
